Everything We Know About the ‘Black Beauty’ Reboot

The beloved Anna Sewell tale Black Beauty will come to life in a new film adaptation made for Disney+ this November. The 1877 novel tells the story of a black stallion named Beauty. Beauty grows up in the English countryside, becomes a carriage horse, and eventually pulls a taxicab in Victorian London. Told from Beauty’s point of view, the story and subsequent films encouraged empathy for others, including animals.

Actress Mackenzie Foy (you know her from Twilight) and Kate Winslet star in the reboot, which tells a *slightly* different story from the original. Keep scrolling to discover everything you need to know about the brand new Disney+ edition of the classic horse film.

When will the Black Beauty reboot be released?

The latest adaptation will be released on November 27th, on Disney+.

Who is Mackenzie Foy?

Mackenzie Foy is an American actress who began her career as a child model, appearing in ads for Polo Ralph Lauren and Guess. Her big breakthrough was in 2011 with the Twilight films. After filming Black Beauty, the young actress wanted a horse of her own.

Who does Kate Winslet play in the new film?

Winslet plays Beauty in the new film, marking the first time a woman has voiced the iconic equine.

How is this new Black Beauty different from the original?

In the Disney+ adaptation, Beauty is a wild mustang born in the American West who is captured and taken away from her family. 19-year-old actress Mackenzie Foy plays Jo Green, a high schooler who has recently lost her parents and eventually meets Beauty. Beauty––like all horses before and after her––offers trust, respect, and above all, an opportunity for Jo to heal. As Beauty gets used to having a saddle on her back, the duo becomes fast friends. The new film takes place in modern times. At its core, Black Beauty will always be a story about the mutual love and respect between humans and horses.
